Canberra is the capital city of Australia but is still not as popular as Melbourne, Sydney or Perth. The Casino Canberra was the first legal casino to open out in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

Casino Introduction: The former casino owners built the casino on excised land from Glebe Park after the casino management worked out a 99 year lease with the territory government. The Aquis Group, a Hong Kong based company decided to acquire the Casino Canberra in 2014 and has plans to demolish the ageing casino in the near future and build something more modern that will attract gamblers from all over Australia.

Casino Promotions: The casino is not known for rolling out regular promotions or advertising its events aggressively. There is a Senators Club that accumulates rewards points for its patrons and then allows them to spend it at the casino and specified businesses and hotels across Canberra.

Casino Overview: The casino is spread across 38,750 square feet and has a total of 45 gaming tables. Canberra Casino is the only casino in Australia that is not licensed to operate poker machines but the new owners are trying to work out a deal with the territory government to be given pokie licenses due to the large investment being made in Casino Canberra.

Some of the popular table games at Casino Canberra include Pontoon, Blackjack, Baccarat, Roulette, Canberra Poker (5 Card Stud), 7 Card Stud, Texas Hold’em and Omaha Poker.

Casino Restaurants: While most of the casinos in Australia have numerous restaurants, Casino Canberra has just one restaurant called the ‘Natural 9’ that servers up local Australian cuisine and is known for its seafood and steak. The restaurant is headed by an awarding winning chef Chad Ogden who launched a new menu in September 2015.

This is an upscale restaurant at Casino Canberra and it is better for visitors to make a reservation before showing up. Alcohol and a good selection of wine are also served at the dinner table.

Casino Entertainment: The Galaxy Club Retro Nightclub is one of the most popular nightclubs in Canberra and plays live music on Friday and Saturday nights. The club starts cracking at 9 pm every night and is a great place for retro music lovers. The club tends to update its entertainment schedule on a regular basis and visitors can check it out at Visitors are advised to make a reservation before arriving at the casino.

Casino Timing & Rules: The casino does not function 24/7 and is open to the public from Sunday to Saturday between 12 pm to 4 am. The casino does not permit individuals below the age of 18 to enter the casino floor.
